Today's New Flipping Physics Video (Finding Average Speed for Pole Position) is an important one that walks through finding information for part of an event when you know information about the whole. It also walks through a common mistake students make.

In today's new video (Understanding and Walking Position as a function of Time Graphs) we begin to understand Position as a function of Time graphs, understand that velocity is the slope of that graph and get to walk four different example graphs. Ryan (my daughter) makes an appearance at 9:32 to walk the last example.
![]() In the summer of 1998 I made the decision to stop being an engineer and become a high school physics teacher because I felt that I could make a greater impact on the world. Now, 15 years later, I have come to a similar crossroads. I have decided to stop being a traditional physics teacher and concentrate all of my time on creating the Billy, Bobby and Bo Flipping Physics lectures. Hopefully, I will be able to teach many more people in various parts of the world. I will miss all of my students greatly and I am excited to see where this new journey takes me. Please wish me luck. An example problem showing that Velocity and Speed are different. A common misconception is that speed is simply velocity without direction. I go through an example that shows that this is not true.
In this example problem we find the average velocity when we have multiple parts and show that you can't simply add the three velocities together and divide by three (a typical incorrect solution).
I am now on my seventh day (not including weekends) where my daughters have been at day camp and my wife has been at work and all I have done is work on Flipping Physics videos. I have gotten about 6-7 hours each day to work on the videos. Alas, it takes a really long time to create these videos. So, here is my second Flipping Physics Video in seven days. I added some outtakes at 11:00. enjoy.
I just finished up a new video that goes through the differences between Displacement and Distance. I am particularly proud of the last example at 9:27. I run out of the house and over to the playground and back again. It was surprisingly difficult to have the transitions be seamless, however, I think I did a pretty good job.

Yep, I make physics videos in the hope that you can learn physics. If you are a physics teacher, I am very hopeful that you will want to use them to help flip your physics class. Archives
